Many leading soloists have performed with the Orchestra over the years. This is a short selection.

2000 Cellist Stephen Thelfall, now Director of Music at Chetham’s School of Music, and violinist Tom Bangbala (BBC Philharmonic Orchestra) play the Brahms Double Concerto

1997 Principal Clarinet with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra John Fuest plays Weber ’s First Clarinet Concerto

1999 Former winner of the North West arts Young Musician Platform Lydia Brian plays the Grieg Piano Concerto

2002 15-year-old Jennifer Pike from Chetham’s School of Music plays Mendelsshohn’s Violin Concerto. Two weeks later she plays the same concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and becomes BBC Young Musician of the Year

2005 Top soprano Angela Rowley sings favourite arias from Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro

2002 Patrick Addinall, principal trumpet with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, plays Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto

2003 Hungarian violinist Kataline Vàrnagy, now with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, plays Bruch’s Violin Concerto No 1

2005 Karolinka de Bree from Holland plays the Schumann Piano Concerto

2007 Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s School of Music plays Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto

2006 Former BBC Philharmonic violinist Jogn Resek plays Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto

2006 Fine soloist Jenny Ferrar plays Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto

2007 Soloist Sara Wolstenholme plays Dvorak’s Violin Concerto

2009 Local soprano Rosie Lomas, currently at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, performs Mozart ’s Exsultate Jubilate  

2007 Lada Bronina from St Petersburg plays Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto

2007 The Orchestra’s own principal oboe Kath Jones gives a fine performance of Mozart’s Oboe Concerto
